With today’s evolving electronic gadgets, flat-screen TV sets and cell phones, the moving and shipping of these fragile items have created a challenge with emphasis on the packing methods and fillers. Packing methods mainly refer to wrapping the items in a protective layer such as the Bubble Rolls or Packing Papers while fillers like Packing Peanuts are designed to occupy the void space to limit the shift of the goods inside shipping boxes. While both the Bubble Rolls and Packing Papers could have a dual role of both protecting and acting as fillers, the Packing Peanuts, on the other hand, cannot form to the shape of the objects and used as fillers only.
Small Bubble Rolls – Bubble Rolls are made of two sheets of plastic attached together with air bubbles trapped between them. The size of the bubbles varies by different types of Bubble Rolls. The larger the bubble, the more protection offered by Bubble Rolls. The versatility of the Bubble Roll Wraps is in their ability to cover any shape completely and be secured in place with a small piece of sealing tape. The unpacking of the items packed by the Bubble Rolls is the reverse of packing them, simply remove the tape and unwrap the Bubble perforated sheets.
Bubble Rolls could be reused and the biodegradable Bubble Rolls are environmentally friendly. The Bubble Cushion may be a bit costlier than the Packing Peanuts or Packing Papers but the safety they offer is well worth the additional costs.
Packing Peanuts – Packing Peanuts were introduced to the market by the DOW Chemical, less than a decade after the arrival of the Bubble Cushioning Rolls. Packing peanuts are very lightweight and economical. They can get into all crevices and if pushed to fill all void areas. There is no need for wrapping the items in any protective layers when using the Packing Peanuts. Also, multiple items can be packed in one box by separating them with a firmly packed Peanuts. The opening of boxes containing packing peanuts could become a bit messy with little pieces of the Styrofoam falling all over. They could have an adverse effect on the environment if the Packing Peanuts are not biodegradable.
Packing Papers – Packing Papers are very cost effective but do not offer the level of the protection offered by Bubble Rolls or Packing Peanuts. Although old newspapers could do the same job but not recommended due to the possible damage the ink could cause in the contents. The Packing Papers could be used to separate items like dishes, cover others like glasses or used to fill the void area when crumbled but it would not offer near the protection that Packing Paper or Bubble Rolls offer.
